Game one of the Boston Red Sox versus Houston Astros series has gone to the Red Sox. Boston now has moved their record to 47-34 on the year and have been impressive on the road with 25 of their victories. Boston’s offense came alive in the top of the seventh inning when they scored 6 of their 7 total runs. This inning turned out to produce the winning run of the ball game. The Red Sox bullpen was able to hold up the remainder of the game to get the Sox the victory.
In all, the Sox got 8 hits that produced 7 runs. One of the hits was a homerun by Marco Scutaro This was Scutaro’s third homerun of the year. Boston pitcher Dan Wheeler was credited with his first victory of the year and Jonathon Papelbon came on to get his 16thsave of the season.
The Astros hit the ball much better then the Sox on this night, but to no avail. In total, Houston got 13 hits on the night. They were not able to do so consistently stringing hits together, however, and only managed 5 runs. Sergio Escalona got his first loss of the year for the Astros as their record fell further to 29-54 on the year. They have had just 14 wins this year on their home field, which is an alarming statistic.
Tomorrow’s game two will feature Andrew Miller pitching for the Red Sox. Miller currently has a 1-0 record with a 3.09 earned run average. The Houston Astros are set to start a struggling Ja Happ. Happ has a 3-9 record on the year with a 5.54 ERA. Boston continues to try and stay consistent with getting victories in a very competitive division. It all is set to start at 7:05 PM ET in Houston. Usually that would mean something, but it is apparent that home field advantage has not applied to the Astros this season.
