Nomar Garciaparra Retires
Nomar GarciaparraThis morning Nomar Garciaparra, 36, and the Red Sox announced his retirement from baseball as a Red Sox. Nomar Garciaparra signed a one-day minor-league deal with the Red Sox organization to retire as a member of his favorite team. This is a happy and sad day for Red Sox fans -- sad to see Nomar Garciaparra retire from baseball; glad that he has returned to the Red Sox Nation. In retirement he will join ESPN as a baseball game analyst.
Nomar Garciaparra played shortstop for Boston. He hit .323 for the Red Sox for his career with 178 home runs, 690 RBI and a .370 on-base percentage. He was a five-time All-Star in Boston, the Rookie of the Year in 1997 and finished second in the MVP voting of 1998 when he hit .323 and drove in 122 runs while hitting 35 homers. He was on the top of the world until injuries began to effect his game and he was traded to the Cubs in July, 2004..
