The Red Sox beat the Astros again on Sunday July 3rd to improve their record to 47-34 on the year. The breaking point came with a 7 run rally in the top of the 7th to take the lead. The Sox pitching staff was then able to come in and hold on to get the victory. The win also improved the Red Sox away record to 25-18 on the year.
Boston, in all, had 8 hits that produced the 7 total runs. Marco Scutaro hit his third homerun of the season in the game. The big inning in the 7thcame at a time the Sox seemed down and out. At the start of the 7thinning the score was 5-1 and Houston had been dominating from the start. Boston was able to string together a great 7thinning though to take a 7-5 lead, which would stand the remainder of the game. Pitcher Dan wheeler got credit for his first win of the season while Jonathan Papelbon came on to close the game and get his 16thsave of the season.
Houston stated the game hot scoring 3 runs in the first two innings. They added 1 more run in each the 5thand 6thinning to take the 5-1 lead they would lose in the top of the 7th. In all Houston had 13 hits that produced 5 runs. Pitcher Sergio Escalona was handed his first loss of the season.
Boston will now go back home to Boston for a series against Toronto that begins on the Fourth of July. Boston is set to start John Lackey. Lackey has struggled this season, which is evident with his 5-7 record and whopping 6.81 earned run average. Toronto will send pitcher Brandon Morrow to the hill. Morrow is 4-4 on the year with a 4.56 ERA.
